Purple paint has been showing up on private landowner’s property lines since 2011 in North Carolina, but I don’t think everyone is aware of the meaning of the paint. Prior to the law change in 2011 landowners had to put up No Trespassing signs not more than 200 yards apart along their property line to protect their property from trespassing. After the law change, No Trespassing signs still work, but you can also use purple paint as a replacement for the signs.
Purple paint must be visible not more than 100 yards apart, be a vertical line of at least 8 inches, and the bottom of the paint must be no less than 3 feet and no more than 5 feet from the ground. The advantage of the paint is that it is much more permanent than the standard No Trespassing signs.
If you would like to replace your old posted signs with new purple paint, we recommend going to your local paint store and have a good quality exterior oil paint tinted to your choice of purple. Grab a 3 inch chip brush and get busy.
